2018 SRP Kickoff Party

The 2018 Summer Reading Program Kickoff Party took place on Saturday, June 2 at the Ironton branch.  We had over 60 people show up for this awesome event!  We had to change things around a little bit because of the storm that blew in, but we had a blast!  Attendees signed up for the Summer Reading Club, played Minute-to-Win-it Games, painted sun catchers, enjoyed some live music by the Jones family, line dancing with Melia, and free BBQ from the Arcadia Valley BBQ Society.  Our door prize winner was Oliver and he received a gift certificate for a free slab of baby back ribs from Ruble’s Meat Market.

Fall Story Time Party 2017

Whew! What a Fall we have had!  For this story time session, we read the Building Block Award Nominee Books.  During our sixth week, we voted on our favorite book.  The favorite was Frog on a Log? by Kes Gray.  This book is extremely colorful, silly, and is full of rhyming words that make it interactive for children.

We celebrated the winning book by having a Frog Party!  After reading the book, we played "Pin the Frog on the Log" and "Fly Races."  We followed that up with a frog mobile craft and a snack.

Grow a Reader!

Last week's Summer Reading Program theme was Grow a Reader!  In Ironton, we went to the Community Garden and learned what different plants look like.  At the other branches, we read The Watermelon Seed and Growing Vegetable Soup.  Then, we played Garden Bingo and decorated watering can flower pots.  After our pots were decorated, we filled them with soil and planted Zinnia seeds.  The kids had a blast with this and thankfully, none of them got too messy!
