Summer Book Bunch

Though this post is short on pictures, we had tons of fun at this summer's Book Bunch, where we discussed the dystopic science-fiction novel, The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau.  Participants began the program by learning to "Eat like an Emberite!", sampling all sorts of foods mentioned in the book: canned peaches, prunes, applesauce, and creamed corn, to name a few.  Each food tried earned coins that could later be spent in the "Night Street Store" on prizes like erasers, magnetic bookmarks, and glow bracelets.  We also held a great book discussion and finished up the program with a craft related to a scene in the book: drawing dream cities with colored pencils on the blank side of bottle labels.

Enjoy the pictures- summer (at the library, at least) is coming to an end!

Digging for the Future (Story Time #3)

Our theme for the last week of summer story time was "Digging for the Future"!  We read Below by Nina Crews, Five Trucks by Brian Floca, and Machines Go to Work by William Low, created a MadLibs-style story called "Underground Adventure", and made bradded paper bulldozers.  Check out the photos below from our construction/building-focused program!

After reading our books, we created our own story!

Coloring bulldozers.

Punching holes in cut pieces.

This craft took a lot of patience, but the kids were up to the challenge!

Busily working.
