Exploring Asia!

We read the book “Lon Po Po,” which is a Chinese take on Little Red Riding Hood.  We talked about the different holidays, dances, and instruments used in Asia.  For our craft, we made painted wind chimes and made diyas.  Wind chimes originated in Asia and diyas are used in the Hindu culture, especially for the holiday, Diwali. For our snack, we tried pocky and soy-flavored crackers.  The pocky was immensely popular and can be purchased at Walmart.  Check out our pics below!

AV Family Fun Day

We partnered with the City of Ironton and the Arcadia Valley Trail Association to provide a fun day for Arcadia families.  There was hiking, fishing, food, and we provided rock painting!  It was a hot day but the park was beautiful!

Breakout EDU

Kids and teens at all of our branches and even a couple of outreach locations got to experience Breakout EDU this summer.  Unfamiliar with Breakout EDU?  It’s similar to the concept of an escape room, but instead of breaking out of a room in a specific time, you are trying to break into a box.  Kids had 45 minutes to solve clues and puzzles to unlock their box that had anywhere from 5-7 locks on it.  Some of the games were based on Dr. Seuss, dystopian novels, shapes, and more!
