The closing parties at each branch were bitter
sweet as it meant a wrapping up of the Summer Reading program. We read “Pete the Cat’s I Love My White Shoes,”
and played with a variety of toys, blocks, and puzzles. We also had a craft—mandoharps! You strum it similarly to a guitar but you
can hold it with one hand. It could be
said that the biggest hits of this party were the bubble machine and the water
beads because a majority of the kids could be found congregating in those
areas. See pics below!
We had a magician from Abra-Kid-Abra as our
third performer this summer and he was a big hit! We had record setting numbers at the Ironton
performance! During the Ironton
performance, the magician had the help of local kid magician, Logan D., who performed
a couple of tricks for the audience. At the end of each performance, kids got
to take home a trick. Check out some of
the fun below!
Our book this week was “Waiting for the
Biblioburro,” which is a beautifully illustrated book about a little girl
waiting on the man that uses donkeys to carry a traveling library. We made two crafts this week—maracas and
carnival masks. As you can see in the
pictures below, the children looked adorable in their masks. For a snack, we enjoyed plantain chips which
many of us thought tasted just like potato chips (some of the kids disagreed
though).
